THE WRITERS COLLEGE FIRST PHASE LAGOS WRITERS CONFERENCE 2021

The Writers College held her first phase Lagos Writers Conference at Peniel Church of Universe at 4/6 Omoba Jesus Close, Pako Bustop, Akowonjo, Lagos on October 11th-12th 2021. The theme of the conference was The Re-awakening of African Literature. The conference was aimed at bringing together writers, journalists, poets, students, Novelists, Policy makers, and stakeholders. The conference attracted dignitaries and special guests like Mr Joseph, from Haiti Based in South Korea, Mr Sanmi Falobi, Author, Mr Gracious Akintayo- Editor/Publisher of Providence Newspaper, Mrs kelecha Ochonogor, Authoress, and Chairperson of the Christian Writers Association of Nigeria and Mrs Ebere Afam David, an English Language Expert and a Lecturer. Our Keynote Speaker, Mr Joseph John advised the youth to always read and write to enhance their literary skills. He further challenged the youth to be ready to tackle life challenging issues while he shared his own experience with them and encouraged them to be focus driven in their academic pursuit. The convener, Dr Chiemeka Chiedozie said that The Writers College was established to address the issues of reading and writing culture of the African Child. He added the idea of was born with the passion for writing and that he is not going to give up in reaching out to schools. Mr Sanmi Falobi, In his lectures on the theme readdressed that African Literature should be taken into consideration by every young people to better improve their speaking, writing, and reading skills. He however shared his experienced that writing has made him what he is today and that the young ones should follow his footsteps. Mrs Kelecha Ochonogor gave justice to her speech and thrilled the audience where said that her life is all about writing and that writing has really bring out the best in her. She explained and highlighted most of her books and encouraged everyone to read her books. Mr Gracious Akintayo, started by saying that writing is an act of communication and God’s instruction. Following a quote he gave from the bible that as a person, it is very good to always write something down even in the church so as not to forget. Mrs Ebere David threw the audience when she said that Parents should educate a and encourage their kids to always write and not be lazy. She also mentioned that the idea of parents helping their kids to write their homework is not a good idea and a bad practice. The conference came with a vote of thanks by Pastor Sam Odiase and after which an award plague was given to Mr Joseph John, who was the keynote speaker for the conference.
